| oatmeal | no | So I've been suffering with acid reflex disease for several years now. I nearly always wake-up several times in the middle of the night with heart burn, unless I've been taking Prilosec. However, the other day I made some Oatmeal cookies, and ate a couple of them before bed -no heartburn. I repeated the experiment last night -no heartburn. WOW! I used the standard recipe off of the Quaker box, except that I made my own brown sugar using Molasses. |

| yes | i like to eat instant quaker oats hot cereal for breakfast, but i get heartburn every time. the reason i've stuck to it is because it keeps things regular, as in prevents constipation. the heartburn is not very severe, and only lasts about 20-30 mins. its a small price to pay (perhaps) for all the benefit of oatmeal cereal. however, if a eat a traditional breakfast (eggs, buttered toast, cheese, bacon etc) in any combination, absolutely no heartburn. and no heartburn after salads, cold cereal, meats, vegetables, fruits - i'm good with everything but oatmeal... how come? |

My co-worker says he knows oatmeal can do this to you and he recommended a Rolex.. another advised to trink a glass of milk after eating it.. I guess there's nothing else to do than try it out and give a report about it later?... I've never had a problem with it before until just recently and I'm pretty sure I've pin pointed the problem to be the oatmeal. yup. |
| yes | |
| yes | I know someone who's also been getting extreme heartburn from oatmeal and only oatmeal. From everything I've read on the matter, oatmeal should NOT cause this. So, I'm wondering, in how many of these cases is organic oatmeal causing it? Because if it's not, than we could possibly conclude that it's not the oatmeal itself. I'll have my friend try it and see... |
| yes | I find it amusing that I hear that oatmeal is not supposed to cause heartburn, yet there are so many "yes" comments here. For me, it is torture. I absolutely love oatmeal, and even as a little kid it would make me miserable at school, with not just heartburn, but a constant burning in my lower stomach, as well. I just can't eat it anymore! |

| no | I get heartburn all the time and take bicarbonate of soda to ease the discomfort. Recently I discovered that eating spinach (cooked in a little olive oil with chopped garlic)prevents the onset of heartburn. It's like magic. I've been experimenting with this for several months and the results have been amazing. I takes five minutes to prepare: Just pour a couple of tablespoons of olive oil into a large pan. Let it get fairly hot before adding a teaspoon of chopped garlic. Let garlic heat to a nutty smell (but not browned). Then add a bag of fresh, pre-washed spinach. Use tongs to keep it moving in the pan until it has cooked all the way down. Put it onto a plate and grate fresh parmesan cheese over it. |
